4G and 5G communication signals under certain types of noises induced by mobile phones: Achievable data rates and solutions for removing such noises.

4G and the upcoming 5G communication signals are extremely efficient in guaranteeing high data-rates. One main reason is because the signals are designed in such a way that they are robust to the propagating medium in which they travel. For example, the propagating medium in wireless communications is simply the atmosphere around us, the urban environment which comprises of buildings, vehicles, roads, trees etc.

The communication signals are generated using hardware devices. For example, todays smart mobile phone comes equipped with the required hardware to generate 4G signals. Unfortunately, these hardware devices are not perfect and in turn introduce their own peculiar types of noises that corrupt the 4G signals.

The focus of this dissertation is to two-fold: First is to determine how much data-rate is achievable under a specific type of hardware-induced noise. The research shows a reduction in data-rate in the presence of these noises. The second is to design algorithms that remove these noises from 4G signals, thus, improving the overall data-rate and reducing the amount error that is observed.
