The title of thesis is “Features and Applications of the Laser-induced Spark as a Monopole Source for Acoustic Impulse Response Measurements”

Lasers can be used to remotely produce the excitation of an acoustic system in order to measure its impulse response. Focusing a high-energy laser into a point in space causes a plasma bubble accompanied by an acoustic impulsive wave. This sonic impulse propagates omnidirectionally, thus resembling a theoretical acoustic point-monopole source. The monopole characteristics of such a source are used in this work to virtually generate the response of the acoustic system, e.g. rooms, for arbitrary source directivity using beamforming techniques. The methods studied in this thesis can be used in several applications like reflection tracking, directional and spatial analysis of rooms, and auralization of different source directivity inside the same room.
